Most Americans Agree With J.K. Rowling

Obviously, polling should not determine moral questions. But, this poll should encourage those of us who think biology matters greatly and that we should not be cow-towed into accepting a clearly outrageous and currently unpopular point of view. Most Americans agree with the Harry Potter Series author, J.K. Rowling, that there are only two sexes & two genders, male and female. (See my “More Than Two Sexes?” post and my post on Rowling for additional detail). And that those two are determined not by internal desire but by biological fact. (Christian’s would infer God’s direction as well.). And additionally, they believe that when you state such an obvious truth it does not mean you are engaging in “hate speech.” (Beware of speech codes which train people to be irrational. George Orwell taught us that.)

What you do with your life as a biological male or female will be partially determined by the choices you and your culture makes, but you can never change your basic biology. You will always be either male or female. Those who say you can ignore biology and create your own body-independent version of “you” are peddling a falsehood under the guise of “freedom” (i.e. radical autonomy.) They are also asking the rest of us to affirm that choice in the name of “inclusivity.” We should rationally refuse to take the bait.

But because most are fearful of being considered a bigot for not jumping on the Trans-Train or other “inclusive” futuristic transports they often remain silent. Especially when speaking out may jeopardize a career. Polling agencies, however, provide a certain level of anonymity and honesty.

Here are the latest results from a Rasmussen poll.

75% of American Adults agree that there are only two genders, male and female. 63% Strongly Agree. 18% disagree.

There is an interesting political breakdown.

Democrats are far less likely to agree that there are only two genders (47%) than Republicans (82%). 60% of the politically unaffilitiated say they “Strongly Agree” that there are only two genders, male and female.

"By more than a 3-to-1 margin, Americans oppose a key educational policy of the transgender movement. Sixty-eight percent (68%) believe schools and teachers should not be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent. Only 19% believe schools should be allowed to engage in such counseling without parental consent."

Also,

More Black Americans (68%) than whites (63%) or other minorities (55%) Strongly Agree that there are only two genders.

If politicians are wondering why many minorities, Blacks & Hispanics, are voting increasingly for republicans over democrats and therefore not voting “in their financial interest” they might want to consider this cultural issue as one reason. Among others.

From a purely scientific point of view there are few things more empirically grounded than the male-female binary. The survival of more than a few species depends upon the natural coupling of this fundamental difference. I’m not a botanist but I’m told plants have male and female characteristics as well. Again, few things in life are more obvious than the male-female binary.

Many feminists like Rowling are fed up with confused men like Jenner appropriating the concept of woman.  Jenner has never menstruated or gestated and given birth.  Lactation and giving suck would seem more than slightly problematic as well.  Without these unique female experiences, among other less biologically determined experiences, how could Jenner possibly know what it is to be a woman?

He can’t because he isn’t.

He can’t anymore than I could know what it’s like to be a 6’ 5” Chinese woman!  For those who don’t know me I’m a 6’ 0” white guy. (Go see this eye opening YouTube video which documents the present day confusion on our college campuses.)  I do hope one day we will look back on this era and ask ourselves, how did we believe such nonsense? We’ve done so before.

We are a tolerant society and are willing to extend a wide range of civil rights to confused people.  But, please God, let’s not affirm their confusion.

As a Classic Christian, I also believe God created the material world, a world that includes our bodies, and God called that world good. So from a Christian point of view, there is no such thing as a person born in the wrong body. Only a severely broken non-integrated person would think such a thing. That person deserves our love and respect as a creature of God, created in the image of God, but we dare not unlovingly affirm his or her delusion. No more than we would affirm the delusion of an 85 pound eighteen year old who is convinced she is fat. Anorexia is a psychological delusion just like gender-dysphoria. Those dysphoria’s are “real” to the person experiencing them because they have a mental illness. Let’s take care of the unhealthy by helping them discover the truth about who they are.

As a Classic Christian I encourage everyone to “Embrace, Don’t Affirm.” Individuals with a Gender Identity Disorder (Gender-Dysphoria) need Truth-filled Love. Please read this post for more details.
