We’re Not Going Away: My Response to the New York Times Hit Piece

Our numbers will soon be too large for the New York Times to dismiss as a “few stories of regret.”

So says Detransitioner Chloe Cole in her response to a recent NY Times article about her.

Yesterday, New York Times reporter Maggie Astor published a hit piece about me in an attempt to undermine my story and the testimonies of other detransitioners. Now that I’ve had some time to process everything more completely, I’d like to address some of the inaccuracies and falsehoods that Astor wrote about me—beginning with the disingenuous title, “How a Few Stories of Regret Fuel the Push to Restrict Gender Transition Care.”

I take issue with Astor’s flagrant use of the word “regret,” which implies a benign mistake like a bad tattoo—something I wasn’t even allowed to get until I turned 18 last year. No, I was a child when I was misinformed and misled by adults, who convinced me to permanently alter my body.

I learned through social media when I was 11 about boys and girls being trapped in the “wrong body”—an impossibility that should never have been “affirmed” by doctors. I was told by health professionals whom I trusted that I had a medical condition that required medical treatment. Not only that, but my parents were emotionally manipulated by being presented with a false dilemma—“would you rather have a dead daughter or a living son?”—despite the fact that suicidality is routinely overexaggerated in trans-identified youth.

Astor relies on the euphemism “transition care” when she means “chemical and surgical sex change services.” This is neither medically necessary nor lifesaving, but rather elective, cosmetic, and experimental.

I’m a Classic Christian and think Gender Ideology is anti-creational to the core. This blog is about “God’s Good Creation.” That’s why I’m writing about Gender Ideology. And “speaking up” as I’m confident Jesus would.

"Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female.'" [Matt 19:4]

Love Refuses To Affirm Confusion

Lifelong Liberal Democrats Create Documentary “Affirmation Generation”

They describe themselves as lifelong, liberal Democrats, but the makers of a documentary about the difficulties of people who transitioned from one gender to another and back have found themselves branded as bigots and anti-trans grifters as well as TERFs—short for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminists.

They said a screening of Affirmation Generation had been canceled due to pushback from trans rights activists—including threats of disruption and social media attacks, and another required extra security and a secret location. Some of the film’s makers say they did not dare use their own names.

If Hollywood knew I made this movie, I would be immediately canceled and destroyed,” said producer Vera Lindner, who goes by a different name for mainstream projects.

She began transitioning at age 18, including injections of testosterone and the surgical removal of both of her breasts, which she said led to more depression. When she was diagnosed four years later with Complex PTSD due to abuse suffered as a child, she transitioned back to female.

Now 26 and saying she is comfortable in her own body, she blames a “cultural obsession” for encouraging her to be trans. “There’s a deconstructionist element to it, completely pushing against traditional values, including the reality of biological sex,” she said. “Kids are pushed along on this conveyor belt that involves big pharma, billable insurance and media propaganda.”

Since going public with her decision to detransition, she’s been likened to a Nazi in social media and told she’s “supporting the genocide of trans people.”

Dr. Soh “Takes No Prisoners” On Dr. Phil Show

We need more health professionals like this. Dr. Debra Soh is a sex neuroscientist, the host of The Dr. Debra Soh Podcast, and the author of The End of Gender: Debunking the Myths About Sex and Identity in Our Society. (I’ve read and recommend.)

Her latest and provocative piece is about Saving Women’s Sport and the most recent Department of Education proposal to allow elementary-aged students to compete in sports according to their gender identity as opposed to their biological sex.

Another reminder that today’s progressivism hates women. So says Soh.

There are only two sexes, and identifying as a woman doesn’t erase the physical advantages associated with undergoing male puberty. Regardless of age, male-bodied athletes should not be competing in women’s and girls’ sports. For boys with gender dysphoria who haven’t completed puberty, affirming their self-identity as female is unhelpful because there is a high probability that they will outgrow how they feel.

As someone who once considered myself to be on the Left, I am appalled and disgusted at how, time and again, gender ideology supports and revels in the denigration and trivialization of women. Women’s rights are being trampled every time a policy prioritizing self-declared identity over biological sex is supported. Readers who share my concern must move beyond feeling fearful of labels like “transphobic,” “hateful,” and “racist.” These false ideas cannot control us.
