In a normal world, this week’s developments would expose the absurdity and internal contradiction of gender ideology. Two current NBA players have declared their intention to enter the upcoming WNBA Draft.
Of course, from a Christian perspective, the issue goes even deeper: creation is not ours to redefine. God created humanity male and female, and no amount of ideology, self-identification, or cultural pressure can rewrite what God has designed.
That’s the problem when a culture rejects the Creator but still wants the authority to redefine His creation. Eventually, self-awareness, science, biology, and basic logic all become subordinate to ideology.
Here are the details of the latest head-scratching developments….
NBA player Enes Freedom Announces for WNBA Draft
“After careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines, I’m officially declaring myself a @WNBA prospect.
If simply declaring who you are is all that’s required, then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA. My team and I have carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion. Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027.
I know my presence on the court will stir up strong opinions. I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices.
I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone — the rules that represent the very values many WNBA players and coaches have publicly advocated for.
Hats off to Enes Kanter Freedom for stepping directly into today’s confusion over sex and gender and forcing the logic of it into the open.
And major props to former NBA first-round pick Royce White. He says he’s declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft, claiming that he identifies as transgender for the purpose of playing professional basketball.
“I’m just having a blast in my feminine era. I never thought that I was a woman. I think it’s only fair I get a chance to play with some of my queens here in the twilight of my career, my athletic prime!
“You know, I’ve always trusted the science and I thought I was a man my entire life, but you know, after further review and strong look at my personal preferences — it would appear that that I am indeed sometimes identifying as a transgender woman.“
Whether they ultimately get anywhere with it is almost beside the point. They’re forcing people to confront a basic question: If biological sex can be overridden simply by declaration, on what principled basis can a women’s professional sports league remain exclusively for women?
For Christians, there’s an even more fundamental question: Do we receive creation as something God has ordered, or do we believe we have the authority to remake it according to our own desires?
